MG Restorers Association is recognised by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) as an approved Historic Vehicle Club and participates in the Historic Vehicle Scheme (HVS). Vehicles registered under this scheme attract a number of benefits - registration fees are very reasonable and green slip insurance is organised by TfNSW at attractive rates. In addition most insurance companies offer fully comprehensive insurance at reduced rates.
However there are restrictions which must be followed:
To be eligible under the scheme, the vehicle must be more than 30 years old; it must not be modified beyond original specifications, except for safety items like seat belts, turning lights - no high ratio axles, no five-speed gearbox, no Mazda engines. A full list of acceptable accessories or options is available from TfNSW here.By lodging the application with us, you assert that the car meets these conditions.
A logbook allows you to use vehicles registered under the Historic and Classic Vehicle Schemes for up to 60 days per year for maintenance and personal use (general use), outside of club-organised events. Each day of general use must be recorded in the logbook. A person responsible for the vehicle can fill in the logbook. Only one logbook entry is required per day, even if there are multiple drivers. The daily entry expires at midnight on the day of the logbook entry, irrespective of when the activity started. The person making the entry in the logbook must write their full name and signature each time.
The logbook and the certificate of concessional registration must be carried in the car. If you cannot produce the logbook and/or certificate, you will be deemed to driving an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle, and you will come to wish youwere not
To apply for the scheme for the first time, you need to have:
Current registration certificate and a Pink Slip if the car is already registered, or a Blue Slip from an authorised inspection station, if the car has not been registered before
